Alan Lim has been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years. After graduating from hotel and tourism studies in Switzerland, he launched his career in hotel management, moved on to the field of Human Resource Development and later in the education arena.

His overseas industry exposures include Zurich Hilton, Noga Hilton Geneva and Basel Hilton in Switzerland. Worked with some world-renown hotel chain like Ramada (Restaurant & Bar Manager), The Regent (Fine Dining Manager) and Resorts World, Malaysia (Head of Human Resource Development) where he lead and designed a comprehensive training system & structure for its 15,000 employees.

He also held significant academic positions at College Damansara Utama (Lecturer), Genting International College (Asst. GM) in collaboration with Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne Consultancy, Switzerland and Taylor’s University (Director, Continuing Professional Education).

Alan holds a MBA, majoring in Hospitality from Ecole Hotelier Les Roches, Switzerland in affiliation with the Swiss Hotel Association and International Management Centres Association, a Certified Trainer for Development Dimensions International, USA (DDI), Ramada International INC., Asia-Pacific and Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, Switzerland and licensed teacher under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia

Besides his experience in managing hotel operations, he facilitates many training workshops, design and implements training systems & structure in conformance with the National Skill Certification of Malaysia and ISO for hotels, resorts and theme parks, manages hotels pre-opening and setting up learning institutions in Malaysia and Singapore.

With his diverse background, he is often received invitations from government bodies and councils on training and education issues; development of the National Occupation Skill Standard for (Hotel Industry & Trainer) and appointed as External Verifier with the Department of Skills Development, Ministry of Human Resources; development of the Hotel Industry Apprenticeship Scheme with the Human Resource Development Board; Committee Member with the State Development Board and judging the hotel competitions with the Ministry of Works.

Successfully executed two turn-key projects at a resort in Fraser’s Hill, Malaysia and a 5-star hotel in Dalian, China. Project Manager at Taylor’s University for training and education at the Palace of the Kingdom of Swaziland, Ministry of Defence in Oman and a public university in Vietnam.

Presently, Alan is a Consultant/Trainer in HRD and Leadership Programmes and at the same time, operating a Travel Agency specialises in Eco & Adventure Tourism and a Travel Writer.
