Alan Y L Lim has been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years. After graduating from hotel and tourism studies in Switzerland, he launched his career in hotel management and later moved on into the field of human resource development, education and tourism.

His overseas exposures include internships with Zurich Hilton, Noga Hilton Geneva and Basel Hilton in Switzerland. Worked with some world-renown hotel chain like The Renaissance, The Regent, Resorts World in Genting Highlands, where he held two portfolios as the Hotel School Deputy General Manager and Head of Training where he lead and designed a comprehensive training system & structure for its 16,000 employees.

His previous consultancy engagements were with the Kingdom of Swaziland in Africa, Saigontourist in Vietnam, Ministry of Defence in Oman during his stint as the Director of Continuing Professional Education with Taylor’s University. Involved in setting up International Club Games in Singapore (casino and hospitality programmes) and a turnaround project with Dynasty International Hotel in Dalian, China.

Alan holds a MBA, majoring in Hospitality from Ecole Hotelier Les Roches, Switzerland in affiliation with the Swiss Hotel Association and International Management Centres Association, UK. A Certified Trainer for Development Dimensions International, USA, Ramada International INC., Asia-Pacific, Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne, Switzerland and held a Teaching License with the Ministry of Education, Malaysia.

Besides his experience in managing hotel operations, he facilitates many training workshops, deliver talks on training issues in seminars, design and implement training systems for hotels and resorts, consult pre-opening of hotels, assist in documentation for ISO9000, TQM, HACCP and Star Ratings Certification, set up hotel schools and advise several government councils in vocational training.

With his diverse background, he was invited to develop the National Occupation Skill Standard for the Hotel Industry and Train the Trainer under the National Vocational Training Council, Ministry of Human Resources. Contribute to the program development of the Hotel Industry Apprenticeship Scheme initiated by the Human Resource Development Board.

His contributions continue as a working committee member with Pahang’s State Tourism Development Council, appointed Judge for hotel competitions under the Ministry of Works and External Examiner for hotel schools.

Alan presently directs two companies; a Tour & Travel Agency and a Consultancy firm providing professional services in the areas of Hospitality & Tourism; Hotel/Resort Pre-opening, Turnaround Project, Operations & Management, Sales & Marketing, Human Resource Development, Vocational Training & Education and a Travel Writer for a lifestyle leisure magazine.
